SMMI have secured three firms to help build the $300-million sulphate of potash (SOP) fertilizer upgrade facility at our Chaplin plant.
With original construction plans on the project delayed a year but set to start in the fall of 2023, it was important to secure the best available contractors for the upcoming building process. Those include two Saskatchewan companies, South East Construction LP (SEC) and Engcomp Engineering along with U.S.-based Veolia Water Technologies.
South East Construction’s role in the project is as Construction Management along with the early engagement on constructability, scheduling, contractor selections and resourcing to ensure successful execution.
Engcomp has been engaged since July 2021 for feasibility, bridge engineering and to design the SOP upgrade. As the Engineering Partner, Engcomp will be responsible for the design and join in the management of project execution along SEC.
Veolia’s responsible for the detailed pressure vessel engineering of the specialized SOP crystallization circuit. Veolia was brought on in July 2021 to determine a preliminary design and test the SOP crystallization circuit to be installed at the facility.
