Saskatchewan Mining and Minerals Inc. (SMMI) is proud to have been one of the 167 projects featured in the Government of Canada’s official deal book at the Canada Investment Summit, held on September 14 and 15 in Toronto.
The summit, hosted by Prime Minister Mark Carney in partnership with CPP Investments and PSP Investments, brought together global investors, CEO’s and public sector leaders as part of the federal government’s plan to attract $1 trillion in investment into Canadian projects over the next 5 years. SMMI’s inclusion in the federal deal book puts our Chaplin sulphate of potash (SOP) project directly in front of that audience, alongside the country’s largest energy, infrastructure and critical mineral opportunities.
In parallel to the Canadian Investment Summit, the Saskatchewan Government hosted the ‘Invest in Saskatchewan Forum’. SMMI is honoured to have been one of the 12 companies selected to pitch at the forum. SMMI’s Chief Financial Officer and Director – Strategic Integration pitched our SOP construction project to an audience of investors already in town for the Summit.
With the acquisition of the Big Quill SOP production facility in March 2026, SMMI is North America’s only integrated producer of natural sodium sulphate and sulphate of potash (SOP).
SMMI’s next stage of growth is to bring an additional 55,000 tons of sulphate of potash production online through our Chaplin SOP project. We will upgrade Canada’s critical mineral potash into the higher-value sulphate of potash for agricultural and industrial uses. This project takes place within the existing industrial footprint of our operating sodium sulphate plant, with critical infrastructure already in place. We are also more than shovel-ready; We have secured our first permit to construct, require no environmental assessment and are in the ground on new storage and loadout infrastructure.
“Our position cannot be replicated,” said Rodney McCann, President and CEO of Saskatchewan Mining and Minerals Inc. “We control 100 percent of Canada’s commercially viable, naturally occurring sodium sulphate resources – this is a made in Saskatchewan opportunity – there is nowhere else in the world where naturally occurring sodium sulphate and potash sit side-by-side. And with the acquisition of Big Quill Lake, we have added an operating SOP facility with the most experienced and successful Glaserite operators in the world to an organization with decades of crystallization and mineral processing expertise.”
Once the Chaplin SOP project is integrated into operations, SMMI will turn its attention to its next phase of growth at Ingebrigt Lake, near Fox Valley, Saskatchewan, where we control the natural sodium sulphate resource to support future annual SOP production of 250,000 to 500,000 tons.
