SMMI Invests in Youth, Community, and Connection at the Canadian Youth Rodeo Championships

Oct 28, 2025

Saskatchewan Mining and Minerals Inc. (SMMI) was proud to sponsor the Canadian Youth Rodeo Championships at this year’s Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) in Edmonton, an event that celebrated the passion, determination, and character of Canada’s next generation of rodeo athletes.

As the presenting sponsor of the Canadian Youth Rodeo Championships, SMMI had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the impact of these young competitors, from their performance in the arena to their leadership behind the scenes. These athletes reflect the very best of their communities and the promise of a strong, resilient future.

“We believe building a better tomorrow begins with investing in youth today. For over 75 years, Saskatchewan Mining and Minerals has operated with a deep commitment to community, sustainability, and legacy. Supporting these young athletes is not just sponsorship, it’s a reflection of who we are and the future we’re working to create.” – Rodney McCann, President and CEO of SMMI.

As part of its support, SMMI awarded two scholarships to competitors who demonstrated exceptional integrity, leadership, and potential both in and out of the arena. These scholarships underscore the company’s continued investment in mentorship, education, and the long-term well-being of the communities it serves.

“The Canadian Country Expo is proud to stand alongside SMMI in recognizing the next generation of rodeo athletes. The scholarships awarded represent more than achievement; they symbolize the heart, grit, and leadership that define Canada’s western heritage and the future of our communities.” – Gillian Grant, Canadian Country Expo.

SMMI extends its sincere congratulations to all of this year’s competitors and wishes to recognize the outstanding efforts of the Explore Edmonton, Canadian Country Expo, and Canadian Finals Rodeo teams for delivering an unforgettable event experience that honours Canadian tradition and youth excellence.

Looking ahead, Saskatchewan Mining and Minerals Inc. is committed to growing its involvement with the Canadian Youth Rodeo Championships in 2026 and beyond, deepening its connection to young athletes, their families, and the communities that support them.

Because like minerals, champions aren’t born, they’re unearthed.
